Snow specific surface area will be used for the understanding of the snow albedo evolution. The snow SSA could be of interest for people working on snow chemistry but this need to take into account that the snowpack in Ny-Ålesund were not always dry. Half of the campaing took part with a wet snowpack. Some validation of the instrument is required before being able to use all the dataset (wet snow started around 24 of April). Tethered balloon (up to 1 km) fitted with: 1) an Optical Particle Counter (OPC)-tandem system (2 OPCs GRIMM 1.107; 31 size classes between 0.25 to 32 um); the first OPC measured aerosol number size distribution at ambient relative humidity (RH), the second one under dried conditions (OPC2 only until 10 April 2011); 2) a miniaturized electrical nanoparticle detector (miniDiSC)
3) a novel micro-Aethalometer (AE51 and AE52 prototype, Magee Scientific) to measure Black Carbon aerosol and the absorption coefficient
4) a miniaturized cascade impactor (Sioutas SKC with 2 impaction stages: <1 μm, >1 μm) to collect massive samples of particulate matter
5) a fast ozone monitor (2Btech), adapted to low temperature conditions, was employed to measure tropospheric ozone profiles
6) a meteorological station (LSI-Lastem and Vaisala Tethersonde TTS 111).
